Well water is used at most places in the countryside. However, well water is not purified as there are no inbuilt filtration systems in the wells. Well water is contaminated and contains sediments in a considerable amount. The consumption of well water can cause many water borne diseases.

Well water is also hard and often has a bad odour. This also contains iron, manganese and sulphides in high quantities. Well water needs to be purified before it can be used for drinking. Well water filters are filters are used to purify well water before it reaches the taps. Well water filters can be attached anywhere. They can be installed directly with pumps in order to filter well water as soon as it reaches the surface. Well water filters can also be attached at inlets to homes where drinking water is filtered. They can be attached to individual taps and also to filter the drinking water and render it free from bacteria.

However, before installing well water filters, the water must be tested for the type of impurities it has. Once the filter is installed, the water must be periodically tested to check whether the filter is working effectively or not.

Types of Well Water Filters

There are generally four types of well water filters. They are:

1.    Whole House sediment filter: These are used when the concentration of sediments is very high. These filters effectively remove excess sand, silt etc.
2.    Point of use water filters: These can be used when concentration of sediments is not too high and filtration of water is required at individual points.
3.    Reverse Osmosis filters: These are generally used when concentration of sulphates is very high in water. Sulphates are effectively removed by these filters.
4.    Whole House Iron reduction filters: These are used when the amount of hydrogen sulphide in water is high. These filters remove iron and sulphide content from water.

Well water filters also remove harmful bacteria and viruses from water.
