Reverse osmosis is the method for desalinating sea water. This process removes sediments and other harmful effluents from water to give the user pure, clean and safer water. Reverse osmosis water filters are water filters that work on the principle of reverse osmosis technology. Water generally flows from a solution of lower concentration to a solution of higher concentration. Reverse Osmosis
reverses this natural flow of water and forces water to move from a solution of high concentration to a solution of lower concentration.
reverse osmosis water filters use multiple steps to purify water. They are also known as ultraviolet purification systems.
How do Reverse Osmosis
water filters work?
There are three steps for purification of water in a reverse osmosis water filter.
1. Pre filtration: The pre-filter is a carbon or activated carbon based filter that removes suspended impurities from water. This filter needs to be changed periodically.
2. Reverse osmosis membrane: A fine membrane which removes all the impurities and agents causing contamination of water form pre filtered water. These impurities and contaminants are removed as waste water from the filter.
3. Holding Tank: This tank is used to hold purified and clean water till it is used.

The process of water filtration in reverse osmosis filters results in providing water that has most of the impurities removed, water tastes better and is free of bad odours.
Advantages of using Reverse Osmosis water filters
1. Reverse osmosis water filters provide clean water.
2. This system facilitates the user to store water with sufficient amount of minerals that are needed by the body for good health.
Reverse osmosis water filters are available in different sizes and are the most suited for use in homes. To get the best filtration system, reverse osmosis technology shall prove to be the ideal method. Get your water filter today and enjoy safe and healthy drinking water.

The osmosis process involves the passage of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from a solution of lower concentration (having more water) to a solution of higher concentration (having less water). In reverse osmosis, this process is reversed. The pressure in the procedure is applied to change the natural flow of water thus forcing water to pass from a solution of higher concentration to a solution of lower concentration. The semi permeable membrane used in reverse osmosis is made up of a material that removes compounds like salts, manganese, iron etc. that are smaller as compared to water. Reverse Osmosis is generally used for desalination of sea water or ground water.

Reverse Osmosis Filters
Reverse Osmosis water filters generally include the following:
1. A sediment filter that removes or traps particles.
2. A second sediment filter which has smaller pores.
3. Activated carbon filters which trap organic chemicals and chlorine which otherwise would damage the semi permeable membrane.
4. A reverse osmosis filter with a thin membrane.
5. A second optional carbon filter which is used to remove any particles that have not been filtered by the first carbon filter.
6. An optional ultraviolet lamp which is used to kill any microbes that may not have been removed by the reverse osmosis filters.

Where can reverse osmosis filters be used?
1. They can be used by people living in countryside who filter sea water themselves.
2. Reverse osmosis filters can be used by companies which manufacture bottled drinking water.
3. They can also be used by travellers who voyage in sea for long. They can use these filters along with ultraviolet sterilizers.
4. Reverse osmosis filters can also be used in power plants to remove minerals from boiler water.
The main advantages of using reverse osmosis filters are that they provide pathogen free water for household purposes and mineral free water for print or photo shops.
