The Convenience of a Travel Water Filter

There are times when you might need a water filter that you can take along with you. Maybe you are going on a road trip or camping excursion. The travel water filter can be found from a wide variety of manufacturers, in various sizes and at various prices. These portable filters can be found for large groups as well as small ones, there is something to accommodate everyone. The portable water filter is a bit different than what most of us think of when we picture a filtration system as it doesn't hook onto a faucet or countertop.

One of the most inexpensive portable filtration systems for one is the Outback Clean Travel Water Filtration System Filter Bottle. This bottle actually gives you the ability to filter water gathered from ponds, streams and lakes in the United States. It is able to eradicate 99.9 percent of giardia lamblia cysts and 99.9 percent of cryptosporidium cysts. The filtration works through synthetic inert polymers, microspheres and molecular sieves designed to trap and hold microscopic organisms and inhibit bacteria formation. The bottle is crafted from Nalgene and squeezes easily.

Another top filter for traveling is the Travel Berkey filter. It is made from stainless steel and has two black Berkey filters included. This device can hold a gallon and a half of filtered water, and has the ability to clean 2.5 gallons in one hour. The filters for this system are easily cleanable, and are also self sterilizing. This powerful filtration system can remove all sorts of contaminants from water including mercury, lead, bacteria and much more. It completely eliminates toxins like pesticides and traces of fertilizers. While more expensive than many travel filters, it is of high quality.

When shopping for a travel water filter, there are several things to consider. First, think about the size of your group. Berkey makes larger portable filters for big groups camping outdoors. For small groups or just one person, only a light bottle style filter is probably needed. The most important thing when purchasing any filter is making sure it has the ability to filter out harmful contaminants that could make you sick. Every filtration system does remove some contaminants, however some filters are more powerful than others. The micron rating is important when buying a filter, the lower the micron rating the more effective the filter will be.

My washing machine is set up in my kitchen. The washing machine hose is located under the sink, so I do not see the water coming out from the hose. I want to know if I get a refrigerator with the filtered ice and water dispenser, can that could be hook up under the sink as well? and if so How?

I hate saddle valves, they leak, and are tough to make close if you need to shut them off for any reason.
In Home Depot, they have a tee that is made for dishwasher hookups, it attaches to the outlet of the cold water shutoff under the sink, and the water line for the sink connects to the top of it. Then on the open end you can put a 3/8" by 1/4" compression adapter that will let you hook up the water line for the fridge.
This lets you have a more reliable shutoff valve, and much lower chance of leaks.

R/O

R/O membranes have much finer pores and much higher efficiency than any other type of "pressure filter"
